We heard from Will Faudree as he was finishing up a gallop with his 5* mount, Mama's Magic Way, fondly known as Mason.
"Just finished one of Mason's gallops. He's got two more here in the states before we head to Burghley. In preparation for five star, you know his fitness started, really back in January. But I start beginning of the summer, he started with his interval gallops and canter sets, and these last final weeks I've moved into speed work, to work on his wind fitness, and he's feeling super. We had a great final outing at Millbrook Horse Trials, and have been working hard with Betina Hoy on the dressage.
Looking forward to heading over to England, he flies out on the 27th, and I'll meet up with him over there. Christina, who is my right hand girl, will be with him on his journey over. And I'm looking forward to it, looking forward to getting back there. We went out there last year, and had a good go, but I was a bit annoyed with my rails in the show jumping, and the time I had in the cross country. So I've been worked real hard in the last year with Lauren Hough, to hone my show jumping, and she'll meet me over in Burghley to help me for the final phase.
You know, I've always worked out quite a bit, and worked on a lot of my fitness. But Burghley last year was a real eye opener for me, for as light of a horse Mason is, I needed to be a lot lighter. So I'm almost 30lbs lighter than last year, 27 to be exact, so I'm looking forward to going over there and giving the best shot that we can."
