Wilma Blakely is a professional dressage trainer with an outstanding track record of successfully training students from Training to FEI level. “I enjoy teaching almost as much as riding,” says Wilma who teaches and rides daily at Sycamore Trails Stable.
If a trainer is measured through the success and passion of their students – Wilma is a rock star with students riding and winning regularly at local and regional horse shows.
When she was 11 yrs old, Wilma saved enough lawn-mowing money to purchase her first horse ($150.00). Many horses later, she discovered the exacting and fulfilling world of dressage.
As a dressage rider, Wilma benefited from the priceless instruction of world class trainers Laurie Falvo, retired “R” judge, accomplished FEI competitor and winner of national titles, and Kathleen Raine, a two-time Olympic dressage competitor, FEI Nations Cup Silver medalist and FEI World Games Bronze medalist. Wilma’s students continue to train with Kathleen Raine today when Kathleen in not competing internationally.
Wilma was awarded a United States Dressage Federation bronze, silver and gold medals on horses she trained herself.
“I really owe my success to both Laurie Falvo Doyle and Kathleen Raine. They are dedicated instructors who stuck with me all those years. They have been wonderful and I thank them,” offers Wilma.
After many championships and successful Grand Prix years with her beloved Dutch Warmblood Electra, Wilma has happily retired from competition to instruct and pass on the knowledge and skills she has gained during her “incredible horse journey.”
Wilma teaches students of all levels of dressage.
