IRAP
Regenerative medicine is the emerging branch of medicine that is aimed at regenerating or replacing damaged cells or tissue. It relies on the body’s innate abilities to heal injuries, reduce inflammation and ease pain rather than drugs and medications.
Autologous Conditioned Serum and IRAP
ACS is the body’s serum that has been collected and processed by an external laboratory to be packed with growth factors and anti-inflammatory mediators. MediVet’s ACS product can be used intravenously to block the inflammatory process throughout the body, and can be administered directly into joints or around tendon or ligament injuries.
IRAP
IRAP (interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein) is a type of ACS that is most commonly used for acute and chronic joint disease. Blood is drawn on the farm, and incubated and processed in our lab. Medical grade glass beads stimulate the production of the anti-inflammatory IRAP molecule and other growth factors.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet rich plasma is the horse’s own blood, collected at the farm and processed in house to be highly concentrated in platelets. PRP is most commonly injected into a tendon or ligament injury using ultrasound guidance. After injection, the platelets release their growth factor packed granules to help stimulate healing.
Stem Cells
Stem cells are cells that are able to divide and differentiate into any type of cell. Stem cells are most often used for tendon, ligament and joint injuries. Stem cells can be derived from bone marrow, fat or blood.
Amnion Derived Products
Amnion is the thin white layer between a placenta and a fetus. When the foal is born, the amnion is collected and processed by AniCell BioTech into various products. The products are rich in growth factors and stem cells, and are used to speed and improve healing of wounds and injuries.
